State of online gambling in Romania
Seeing as Romania is reviewing its gambling regulations it stands to reason that things are going to change soon. Until recently Romania did not have any rules in place for online casino operators to follow and so the state’s National Office for Gaming has taken the first step in rectifying this problem.
First of all they have identified the online gambling operators that are currently doing business without licenses. Granted, these companies cannot be technically accused of illegal gambling since there were no laws set in place when they opened up shop. The goal now is to see which of these companies wish to remain in the Romanian market and award interim licenses.
Apparently some operators are already bidding for the new gambling allowances and are even offering to pay back taxes for up to 5 years for conducting unlicensed operations. The new licenses would be available for a period of 10 years. Although details are not yet properly set in place, there seems to be a bright future ahead for the Romanian online gambling market.
