Casino project to be voted in New Bedford
New Bedford Waterfront could display a new casino if electors approve the referendum planned for this month. The forum held at the Roosevelt Middle School by the city’s influential persons and developers allowed residents to present their strategies. However, there were a lot of people asking questions about the environmental and traffic issues that the proposed casino could cause.
This proposed casino project would translate into a 300-room hotel with restaurants and stores, but also a vast conference center. Approving the project would mean up to 5500 new job offerings for residents of New Bedford.
The referendum will take place on June 23 and its approval, according to developers, will generate other discussions and it does not necessarily mean that the casino will be built. Two more community forums are announced before the referendum.
Moreover, the casino revenues would annually generate approximately $100 million for the city.
